Well, as of tomorrow I am taking a bit of a break from my paints. One more sleep and we're off to spend Christmas with family and friends. I won't have any new paintings to list until I return but in the meantime I have several items in my eBay store and of course my little Nibblefest auction is running until the 27th of December. But I thought I'd post one of my ceramic tiles tonight.

Hello again everyone! I can't believe a whole week has gone by so quickly! On top of the usual sprint to Christmas, I’ve had the pleasure of an emergency root canal. But I’m back to normal again and got this little painting finished just in time for Nibblefest.

This is my entry in the Nibblefest Art Contest, "Dreams, Childhood Dreams" on eBay.
Nibblefest is a themed art contest beginning on the 20th of each month.

I worked on another larger painting today, but it was so cold outside that I couldn't bring myself to stand out there to get a good picture of it. I was freezing by the time I got in from walking the dog.
It's Friday night, we have the Christmas tree decorated, a fire crackling. It's time for a glass of wine and no more computer! Good night to all!

Crowns, Angels and Never Enough Time

Words In Your Heart

“One of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can't utter.”

~ James Earl Jones

Size: 12 X 16 in
30 X 40 cm

This morning I spent two hours in the dental chair getting a new crown...I think a tiara would have been ever so much nicer...However, I did return to my paints.
I have to admit that "Words In The Heart" was done over two days. But I did paint the little angel below today, so I quess I'm still not only a compulsive painter but a "painting a day" painter.

Invisible Treasures

“The greatest treasures are those invisible to the eye
but found by the heart.”

~ U/K

Acrylic on Wooden Block
Size: 4 X 6 in
10 X 15 cm

And an apology to all of you who have look at my art and sent kind words, please forgive me for not always responding. I appreciate every message even when I don't send a personal note your way...I'll try to do better. Thank you for your encouragement.

Misha, Frida and A Girl in Prayer

Her Wish
“The wish to pray is a prayer in itself.
God can ask no more than that of us. ”
~ Georges Bernanos
Acrylic on Wooden Block
Size: 4 X 6 in
10 X 15 cm
So here is my little painting for today. I painted this this little girl raising her hands in prayer in acrylics on a wee wooden block. Your painting arrives signed and ready to hang. The sides are painted black so no framing is needed.

I just had to share this shot of my ever present companion, Misha.

I haven't been very good lately about posting my work in progress. Mostly because I've been working on minis rather than large pieces. These things seem to go in cycles...but I've got a canvas almost finished so thought I'd share it tonight. It's based on a Frida portrait...I seem to be on a Frida streak these days.

~ William C. Bryant

I continue to experiment with metallics and liquid gold leaf à la Klimt.
The colour blue is so crisp and clean, I like it against the porcelain tones of the woman's skin.
I've continued the painting around the staple free sides, so there is no need to frame. Your painting arrives ready to hang

Misha's Big Adventure

A couple of weeks ago, we adopted Misha, a little stray kitty.
It hasn’t taken this little character long to find her way into our hearts.

This shot was taken a couple of days ago during one of her many safaris through our living room.

And today's painting is another angel ...

Thanksgiving Madonna

Rare Union
Size 4 X 6
Acrylic on Wooden Block

Well, Happy Thanksgiving to all my American friends. I had even thought that I'd do a turkey today...but somehow the domestic goddess could just not get it in gear. I didn't even bake that pumpkin pie that I had promised myself...ah well. But I did get a painting done today. For some reason, I didn't see my yesterday's painting on the Dailypainters site. I must have snuck in too late or something. Oh Well, I hope you'll take the time to read yesterday's post...

I've done a mini painting today...another Madonna, in a folk style.

Orphaned Sled Dogs Need Help

They not only leave behind family and friends, but 65 beloved sled dogs. In the aftermath of this tragedy, these orphaned dogs will need loving homes. Me and Tom Thomson

I'm listening to CBC news as I get my life organized for the day, no surprise here. The Canadian art buzz is all about the $934,000 price tag on Tom Thomson's Burnt Area with Ragged Rocks sold yesterday at Sotheby's auction in Toronto. If you’ve never seen an original Thomson, it's all true. His work is haunting and honest speaks of the untamed forests of Northern Ontario. He died mysteriously sometime between July 8, 1917 and July 17, presumed drowned in his beloved wilderness. He was only 39. I spent an afternoon at a Group of Seven exhibit a couple of years ago and it’s Thomson’s work that remains in my mind.
Well, I'm no Tom Thomson but I'm still painting!

Today, in fact the whole weekend, was busier than I had planned. I had actually hoped to take a few hours off to just laze...hmm...it so seldom happens. With Christmas coming, it was wishful thinking. So instead, I organized my digital files, worked on learning this new camera and of course, painted. I finished a few new pieces, most of which are on eBay, Boundlessgallery and Yessy and of course my website. This is one of the new pieces and by far the "shiniest" of the weekend. I still can't get enough of these metallics and liquid gold leaf! I call it "Myself By Definition. It's done on canvas 16 X 20 inches, and I continued the painting around the sides.

Rain and Hibernation

It’s actually before noon and I’m posting in this modest little blog before
I'm bleary eyed with fatigue and it’s long past my bedtime.

It feels like it’s been raining here for days, which it has. I seem to have an irresistible urge to hibernate or perhaps to use a term from the last century, I need to “cocoon.” I find myself thinking about how good it’s going to be to climb into bed and just shut it all off for the night. But not before I read myself to sleep. Books are a place to go when I’m tired of thinking about where I am.

I’ve finally realized that although my long hours at the easel are perhaps making me a better painter, those same hours have kept me away from my old friend, the novel. How I’ve missed all those characters with their complicated yet common lives. I crave words, words on paper. I realize that since I’ve working with words less, my vocabulary, that I was once just a little bit proud of has become embarrassingly limited. Stumbling through my first few blog entries was all the proof I needed.

But thankfully, I don’t make my living through words, and I hope that I’m a better painter than I am a writer. So it’s time to get to my paints.

Redemption And Remembrance

Redemption and Remembrance

"Seeking to forget makes exile all the longer; the secret of redemption lies in remembrance."

~ Richard von Weizsaecker

Size: 8 X 10 inch
20 X 26 cm

November is a month of remembrance. And of course tomorrow is November 11, Remembrance Day. A couple of years ago we traveled to England and France. We had a wonderful trip, London, Paris, Versailles, Rouen.

But the it will always be the afternoon that we spent at Vimy that remains in my mind. Thinking of so many young men fighting for that ridge still haunts me. The sadness and truly awesome beauty of the great sculptures against the sky is incredibly moving. And the poppies really do grow there…

So this is my little Remembrance Day painting…

Angels Madonna and more à la Klimt

A New Ending

“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning,
but anyone can start today and make a new ending.”

~Maria Robinson

Today there were simply too many domestic tasks infringing on my time. First there was that disorganized fridge to clean, then dog hair to vacuum up and groceries to buy. And more shipping of course, that necessary evil of the art business. But at least I spent a bit of time at the easel and finished this little cross.

I'm didn't have a chance to work on the Celtic Madonna but should have this Klimt inpired piece ready for sale tomorrow...at least that's the plan! I'll have a better shot of it once I figure out my brand new camera. More on that tomorrow I hope.
